Staying hydrated is an essential aspect of your day-to-day health. Fluids are essential to keep your vital organs active and keep our body functioning properly. We can all agree Cayman is hot, and that means we are prone to an increased risk of of dehydration. The average adult needs ~ 3 Liters of water every day. This volume proportionally increases with the more fluids you lose through exercise or heat exposure. Dehydration symptoms can be mild, moderate, or severe so if you are feeling lightheaded or are suffering from a headache after not having a drink all day, chances are you’re experiencing mild dehydration and need a bodily top-up.
Here are our top tips to keep you drinking more water, stay hydrated, and Live Well:
Don’t Wait Until You Are Thirsty
By the time you feel thirsty, you’re already slightly dehydrated. Sip water steadily throughout the day and drink more fluids than usual when the weather is hot, especially if you’re active. It is always better to drink too much water than not enough.
Carry a Water Bottle
You are more likely to drink water if it is always with you. It is also cheaper and more environmentally conscious to fill up your water bottle throughout the day than buying bottles of water. A water bottle also makes it easier to track how much water you’ve had
Drink Water First Thing In The Morning
Jump start your day with a glass of water. Drink a glass or two of water as soon as you wake up in the morning, or take a drink while you are brewing that morning coffee or tea. This will help set you up to hit your water goal.
Flavor Your Water
If plain water is too boring for you try adding a hint of flavor! Drop-in a few lemon slices, strawberries, or cucumbers to your water to add a whole new taste. Try adding frozen blueberries as ice cubes to both cool and sweeten the beverage.
Track Your Hydration
In the world of smart phones, there are apps for just about everything. Find an app that works for you, and track your water intake. Set a goal for yourself, and remember to add more water the more you exercise or spend time in the sun
